In publica commoda

In a joint declaration concerning “The European Higher Education Area”, the ministers responsible for higher education of 29 European countries decided on 19 June 1999 in Bologna to implement the European Higher Education Area by 2010. Towards this end, it was also decided to develop a process of standardisation and uniformity for the various higher education systems in Europe. This move, known as the Bologna Process, pursues the following objectives:

  • Introduction of a multi-level, cyclical system of studies ( Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees)
  • Introduction of a performance credit system compatible with the European Credit Transfer System (ECTS)
  • Introduction of the diploma supplement
  • Promotion of mobility and European cooperation in quality assurance
  • Development of the necessary European dimensions in higher education
