Details

The Master's programme in Slavic Philology offers a versatile education in linguistics and/or literary studies. It is supplemented by practical language training in the language(s) studied.

The specific feature of the Slavonic education in Göttingen is its linguistic breadth (at least two Slavonic languages from the range of Bosnian-Croatian-Montenegrin-Serbian, Bulgarian, Polish, Russian, Czech and Ukrainian, one of which is acquired in the Master's programme) in combination with a well-founded and versatile subject-specific education.

The Master's programme focuses on the history and meaning structure of the Slavic languages as well as the diachrony and theoretical typology of the Slavic literatures. In addition, the programme includes courses in which you expand or develop your language competence.

If you choose the Master's specialisation "Russian Literature in the European Context" (Double Degree with the University of Voronež, Russian Federation), your studies will take place partly in Göttingen and partly at the University of Voronež. This is a purely literary study focus.

The degree of Master of Arts "Slavic Philology" qualifies students for university careers, for jobs in research and cultural institutions, in education and publishing, in cultural journalism and management, and generally for all communicative professions with a connection to Eastern Europe in public life and the free economy that require intercultural competence.
