Chair of Development Economics (‚Juniorprofessur‘)

Professor Landmann moved to the Chair of Economics: Development Economics at the Friedrich-Alexander University of Erlangen-Nuremberg in the summer semester 2020.


Dr. Andreas Landmann is the new Junior Professor of Development Economics. He joined the Department of Economics at the University of Göttingen Faculty of Business and Economics on September 1, 2018.

Prof. Landmann uses applied econometrics and behavioural economics, often in combination with field experiments, to investigate questions in the field of development economics. His key research interests are risk and financial hedging opportunities in developing and emerging countries, especially in the health sector. At the Faculty of Business and Economics, he will mainly offer courses at the bachelor’s and master’s programme levels.

Andreas Landmann studied economics with a focus on development economics and applied econometrics at the University of Mannheim and at the University of Toronto in Canada. In 2013, he completed his doctoral studies at the University of Mannheim with a dissertation on formal insurance products and voluntary support in social network in developing countries ("Essays on Formal Insurance and Informal Solidarity in Development Countries") at the Chair of Econometrics of Prof. Dr. Markus Frölich.

Until 2016, he was also a researcher at the chair of Prof. Frölich and at the Collaborative Research Centre "Political Economy of Reforms" (SFB 884). Subsequently, he was a postdoctoral research fellow, funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG) at the Paris School of Economics in France.

He is a member of the European Development Network and the renowned Risk Theory Society. Additionally, he referees for various scientific journals (e.g. Review of Economic Studies and European Economic Review) and serves as an evaluation expert in German development cooperation projects and international NGOs. Andreas Landmann is married and has three children.
